Healthy nutritious and very simple sesame seeds laddu – Ellu Urundai recipe with detailed step-wise instructions. Make this Ellu Urundai or Til Ladoo for healthy snacking!

    Ellu Urundai

Sankranthi special recipe – Ellu Urundai, Sesame Seeds Jaggery Laddu is a very simple festival recipe that can also be made regularly at home. Black sesame seeds – Karuppu Ellu are very healthy and are a powerhouse of a lot of good nutrients. In this Ellu Urundai recipe, we use just two basic ingredients – Sesame Seeds and Jaggery. Jaggery made from sugarcane is healthier compared to the refined sugar and is rich with micronutrients and iron. I used Vayam Superfoods Jaggery and it is so good! Both sesame seeds and jaggery are iron-rich and are given to young girls and women alike, for bone health and general strength.

    Ellu Urundai

There are multiple ways to make Ellu Urundai – Til Ladoo. This version that I am sharing is from my mother-in-law typically made in Southern Tamilnadu. In telugu households, generally Black Sesame Seed are not stored or used. But since they are healthier than the skin removed and polished White Sesame Seeds, I prefer to use them. In this recipe, there is no need to make Jaggery syrup – just pulse roasted sesame seeds and jaggery powder – that’s all. It is recommended to use best quality jaggery powder that’s free of impurities as we add it directly. The Ellu Urundai keep well for over a week even outside. Check out other Sankranthi recipes!

    Recipe Notes

    • You can also add roasted peanuts along with black sesame seeds.
    • Adjust jaggery quantity depending on your sweet preference.
    • Don’t add too much water as the mixture will turn runny. Just sprinkle a few drops to a small batch and make the balls.
