    Key Ingredients

Banana is one of the main ingredients and I use Red Banana for making my protein smoothie. Compared to the yellow bananas, red bananas are not so sweet but are loaded with rich nutrients like potassium, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and are high on fiber. They are good for regulating blood pressure as they are rich in potassium and are also good for eyes as they contain carotenoids.

Figs and Dates are other key ingredients in this banana protein smoothie recipe. I use dry figs and dates, soaked in warm water before making the smoothie. If you can find fresh figs, use them instead.

Hemp Hearts and Raw Hemp Protein Powder used in this smoothie makes it protein-packed. A scoop of it can provide 10gms of protein, which is what a typical adult human body needs per day.

Milk is added to make this smoothie creamier. Both plant-based vegan milk and regular milk can be used.

Cinnamon Powder is an optional ingredient that can be great flavor addition.

Tips & Important Notes for Making Banana Fig Date Protein Smoothie

Banana Protein Smoothie is such a simple and straight forward recipe, that is beginner-friendly. Check out my tips and notes below when you make this smoothie.

Keep the smoothie ingredients cold and that helps make the smoothie better. You can also use frozen bananas for a thicker smoothie.

Using a good blender that doesn’t heat up the contents is recommended. While a regular blender works, smoothie maker gives a creamier smoothie.

Adjust the amount of liquid as in milk or water to make the smoothie thicker or thinner and it can be served in as a smoothie bowl or in a glass.

    Substitutions & Variations

Use plant based milk like soy milk, almond milk or even water to replace regular milk. When hemp hearts and blended with water, it makes hemp milk and can be used to make the smoothie too.

Soaked almonds, cashews can also be used in the smoothie along with dates and figs.

Use fresh figs in the place of dried figs if available.

Hemp protein powder, hemp hearts are optional but highly recommended. You can also use any other protein powder to replace hemp.

This banana protein smoothie does not have any added sweeteners but if you find that the smoothie is not sweet enough (very unlikely), you can either add honey or sugar depending on taste preferences.

    Serving Suggestions

Banana Fig Date Protein Smoothie is best served chilled or cold. It can be made thick to be served as a smoothie bowl with nuts and chopped fruits added on top. Sprinkle with hemp hearts for added texture, taste and health benefits. It can be served as a quick but filling breakfast and also as a mid-day snack. Banana smoothie is best consumed immediately after being made. When left open or even refrigerated, bananas can oxidize and change color/taste. Check out other beverages and cool drinks!
